Among the streets of the busy historic center of San Gimignano, hides an oasis of quiet and creativity, the illustrolibreria di Domitilla, a space that between art and literature hosts books and illustrations, but above all it is a center of cultural ferment.
Digital artist and literary connoisseur, Domitilla gave birth to this reality in June 2022, not only because of her passions and professional aspirations. "Living in a small community means having social responsibility." she says, so she dedicated herself to a project that would involve her as an artist and cultural worker, but also as a citizen of the very famous City of Towers. She wanted to create a space especially for residents, for those who really live San Gimignano; a meeting and sharing point for readers and not only, realized with other young people like her, professionals in the artistic and cultural field who had the same dream and with the support of the City of San Gimignano. A collective project then, an artistic movement that welcomes the fervent creative reality of San Gimignano and finds in the bookstore its headquarters, where ideas and new projects are born, such as a festival, already in its second edition, with the aim of also redeeming its own beautiful and authentic town from its reputation as the "Disneyland of the Middle Ages."
Within a tourist context such as that of San Gimignano, Domitilla's bookstore is a space that is melodically jarring, testifying that beyond the tourist hordes there are realities representative of a rooted and settled community.
