Walking in the nature of San Gimignano

Ideas for pleasant treks surrounded by beautiful scenery

The City of Towers is not only the custodian of a priceless artistic and historical heritage, also the natural heritage that surrounds it constitutes an enormous wealth. A wealth made of biodiversity and landscapes where man is a guest and nature reigns. Places that are also custodians of ancient vicissitudes and historical testimonies enveloped by lush forests and hills combed by rows of vines and olive groves. Pictures that invite to be explored and the best way to do so is to put on a pair of hiking boots and set out on exciting excursions in the surroundings of San Gimignano. Here is where to embark on pleasant walks among nature and history.

Castelvecchio Nature Reserve

A few kilometers west of the turreted city, an area as rich in vegetation as it is in ancient events stretches for hectares, the Castelvecchio Nature Reserve, a little-known gem of great natural and historical interest. The protected area is a green lung in which lush oak forests alternate with vegetation varieties typical of the Mediterranean scrubland, the habitat of numerous and even uncommon wildlife species. It is also the custodian of the ruins of a medieval fort and its thousand-year history, the scene of bitter conflicts between Volterra and San Gimignano.

Numerous trails wind through the reserve, leading not only to discover the rich biodiversity it holds but also to the archaeological site of the Castelvecchio ruins.

City of the world, heritage of humanity. Where to breathe in the atmosphere of the Middle Ages and immerse yourself in the magnificent Tuscan countryside under the banner of a beautiful and sustainable lifestyle.
